Open-ended Psychotherapy
Open ended psychotherapy is recommended for people who have experienced longer-term difficulties or who repeatedly find themselves in difficulty. The problems addressed may be well-defined, for example an eating disorder or severe depression, or may consist of prolonged unhappiness or unease without any obvious symptom or cause.
The approach is psychoanalytic and narrative, with an emphasis on thinking about current problems in the context of past experience, including family dynamics. Considerable commitment is required, since it is important that sessions happen weekly, or in the case of severe problems twice-weekly, at a regular time. The regular setting, the space to think and talk, encourages matters to arise and come to the fore in their own time. Themes develop in the work and these are considered, remembered and returned to at different points during the therapy. Fees are on a sliding scale between £55 and £65 per session. There are some concessionary places available at £50 for students and others on a low income.
